Scale Sailing

The Woodspring Model Sailing Club has an active scale modelling section in addition to the racing section.  The majority of our scale models are sailing models although we also have a number of electric and steam-powered models.  Our models include both highly detailed scale models and ‘stand-off’ scale or semi-scale models.  Popular sailing model subjects include Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters, Thames Sailing Barges and various sailing fishing vessels.  All of these make excellent radio-controlled sailing models.  Other members enjoy restoring old model yachts including some models dating back to the late 1800s.

If you have not seen scale model sailing before then do come to the lake and perhaps talk with our members about it. On a good day it is an extremely enjoyable hobby and one that always attracts interest from the public.  Members enjoy free sailing although if enough members are present we can set up a course with the club buoys to sail around.  Members are free to meet and sail at any time in addition to the published times and dates on our club calendar.  Many retired members also sail their scale models during the week.  See our 'social sailing' page for more details about our meetings.
